Goan Beef Mince Croquettes

Goan Beef Mince Croquettes
  • 500gms beef mince
  • 2 medium size onions (peeled & roughly chopped)
  • 1 boiled potato (peeled & mashed)
  • 8 garlic cloves (peeled & grated)
  • 3 fresh green chillies (remove stalk & make a paste)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala or 1/3 tsp each of pepper, cinnamon, clove & jeera powder
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime or 1/2 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 bread slices without the edges (break into small pieces)
  • 1 egg (lightly beaten)
  • A handful of freshly chopped coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Rava/ semolina for rolling the croquettes
  • Vegetable oil for shallow or deep frying
  1. Combine beef mince, onions, ginger, garlic, green chillies, turmeric powder, a little salt & 1/4 cup of water in a pot or pressure cook up to one whistle.
  2. After cooking, dry up the extra water, if any, but retain a little moisture
  3. Now add bread pieces, mashed potato, garam masala, lime juice or vinegar & chopped coriander to the cooked mince.
  4. Mix well & then grind to a fine paste.
  5. Transfer to a bowl. Adjust salt to taste.
  6. Add the egg & mix well.
  7. Chill the mixture for about 15min
  8. Shape the prepared mince paste into small cylindrical rolls
  9. Then roll each croquettes in rava / semolina to coat evenly & place on a plate.
  10. Let it rest for 15min
  11. Shallow fry in a pan until light brown & crisp or deep fry the croquettes till golden.
  12. Drain & transfer the croquettes on to plate lined with absorbent paper.
